With Hollywood finally getting away from its rut of inane sequels, 2017 has us looking forward to a great selection of movies, so prepare a good TV and an outdoor tv wall mount to watch all these movies on summer. Instead of reboots, remakes and unasked belated sequels like Ben Hur, Zoolander 2, Dumb and Dumber To, Bridget Jones’ Baby and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, we can look forward to things like Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Dunkirk and T2: Trainspotting. So, in release order, here are 12 Hollywood movies to look forward to this year:
Bastards
This comedy movie starring Owen Wilson and Ed Helms (the dentist from The Hangover trilogy) should be worth a watch, if only once.
Rings
The third installment in the Ring series is set 13 years after the events of the first movie, and it introduces new characters, most of whom will, in all probability, not make it to the end.
The Lego Batman Movie
Forget Christian Bale and Ben Affleck, Will Arnett is the best Batman. This movie is promising a lot, and I hope it doesn’t fail to deliver.
Logan
More Wolverine, inspired by Logan in a post apocalyptic adventure. This is supposed to be the last in the Wolverine spin-offs. Let’s see.
T2 Trainspotting
March 3rd (limited) and March 10th (January 27th in the UK and Ireland)
Danny Boyle and the original cast of Trainspotting are back. The saga continues with the original characters reuniting. Sequels aren’t always the best, but here’s hoping that this is.
Kong: Skull Island
The second movie in the Godzilla-Kong film series by Legendary, with Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson, is a buildup to Godzilla vs Kong (2020).
Beauty and the Beast
Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens and savior of the universe Emma Watson both star in the remake of the 1991 animated film. Looks like it’ll be a good one.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Jack Sparrow, Mr. Gibbs, and the rest of the gang are back with the fifth movie of the series. It shouldn’t disappoint, considering it’ll be very difficult to make a movie worse than On Stranger Tides.
Dunkirk
Operation Dynamo, also known as the Miracle of Dunkirk was an evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk in WW2. And now it’s going to be made into a film by Christopher Nolan.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
It’ll be interesting to see what they do in this sequel, considering they killed off Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Firth, and Michael Caine in the last one (spoiler).
Murder on the Orient Express
The greatest murder mystery book is now a movie, staring Kenneth Branagh, Penelope Cruz, and Johnny Depp.
and now, the best for last…
Star Wars: Episode VIII
All I have to say about this is that it’s as yet unnamed. Also, I can’t wait for this one.
